HycAero Receives Airbus Approval for Zinc Nickel Plating Capability

HycAero has achieved a significant milestone with the successful approval of its Zinc Nickel (ZnNi) plating and associated heat treatment processes by Airbus.

The approval follows nearly two years of development, installation, qualification and rigorous assessment, further strengthening HycAero’s position as a leading provider of specialist aerospace manufacturing and processing solutions.

Advancing Aerospace Surface Treatment Capabilities

Zinc Nickel plating provides high-performance sacrificial corrosion protection for components operating in demanding, high-temperature environments. The process also enhances wear resistance and improves the durability of the base material.

As the aerospace industry continues to move towards more sustainable manufacturing practices, Zinc Nickel is increasingly being adopted as an alternative to cadmium plating, helping to reduce environmental impact while maintaining the high levels of performance and reliability required for critical aerospace applications.

A Globally Recognised Capability

The investment in a bespoke Zinc Nickel processing line positions HycAero among a select group of suppliers worldwide, with the company now one of only four organisations to hold Airbus approval for this capability.

The approval creates opportunities to support major aircraft Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and further expands the range of specialist services available to customers across the aerospace sector.

HycAero is also progressing additional approvals to apply the coating to aircraft landing gear components, creating further value through its CNC manufacturing capabilities and enabling a more integrated, end-to-end service offering.

Supporting Future Growth

The project has been delivered in less than 24 months, from initial concept and installation through to qualification and final Airbus approval.

Commercial activity is already underway, with customers progressing First Article Inspection (FAI) batches and production demand forecast for the coming years. The new capability is expected to play an important role in supporting HycAero’s long-term growth strategy while providing customers with access to a highly specialised, Airbus-approved process.

This achievement reflects the expertise, dedication and collaboration of teams across the business and represents another important step in HycAero’s continued investment in advanced aerospace technologies and manufacturing excellence.
